The second NFT collection in Leo Villareal’s Cosmologies series.

Cosmic Bloom is produced using custom live code and is inspired by organic and biological structures, stellar phenomena, and atomic patterns.

Cosmic Bloom is Leo Villareal’s second fine art NFT collection and is a continuation and expansion of the work he began with the release of Cosmic Reef on Art Blocks. Cosmic Bloom is an artist-curated generative artwork that is produced through custom live code. Building off of Cosmic Reef, the new collection features ever more intricate and complex compositions. They are built from geometric forms that are repeated to produce myriad patterns in colorful layers combined together and animated, set into constant motion. The works evoke a wide range of imagery including organic and biological structures, especially microscopic organisms, as well as atomic particles and stellar phenomena. Villareal has long explored the possibilities of computer code in his light sculpture. With Cosmic Bloom, he advances his exploration of NFTs as a technology and medium, creating elaborate works made available to wide audiences, akin to the reach of his urban-scale public artworks.

“Each sequence is new and self-propagating, based on code the artist has written with a team of developers. Much like representations of submarine organisms, molecular geometry, or star clusters, these works can have a hypnotic effect, inducing awe at the overwhelming complexity of the universe or a single cell, especially as the viewer cannot be sure what kind of scale they might be looking at.”
